Implantology and Implants
Implantology is a modern branch of dentistry that deals with the replacement of one or more teeth by the insertion of endosseous implants. Dental implants are titanium replacements and they’re completely biocompatible and bioinert, which means that the organism doesn’t recognize them as a foreign body and therefore doesn’t reject them. Implants can be implanted in the absence of a single tooth, where one implant carries a single metal ceramic or zirconium oxide crown, and they can serve as a bridge carrier, even anchoring a total denture. If we’re dealing with edentulism or toothlessness, the solution is a bridge on the implants or a dental prosthesis attached to the implants. The bridge on the implants is fixed and looks more natural than the prosthesis. If there’s a possibility to install more implants, like 6 to 8, that are statically well-distributed, a fixed “cemented” or a movable bridge can be made. If it’s possible to install a smaller number of implants, like 2 to 4, we will make a denture. The prosthesis fixed on the implants is sturdier than the ordinary prosthesis, but keeps the mobility and can easily be removed. Implants in general have a positive effect on the quality of life of patients while improving their self-confidence.
